To my dearest friends, family and fellow culture cravers,
Welcome to my first post of many as a ‘full time’ traveller (wow, that feels good to write) as well as, the first post in my ‘postcards home’ series, which I will be writing every Wednesday to keep you all updated on where I have been and what I have been up to (apologies for this post being so late… it’s been a manic few days)!
After a lengthy journey of flights, taxis and tuk tuks from London to Goa, I can happily say that I have made it to my hostel safely (Backpacker Panda in Candolim) and am over the moon to finally be here after so many months of planning!
I’ve only been back in India for a couple of days (this is my third trip to this fabulous country) however, I have very quickly been reminded of how hectic, vibrant and colourful it is.
Nevertheless, Goa is India like I’ve never seen it before and I am yet to decide whether I’m a fan. So far I’ve only seen the Candolim area, which is renowned for its beach shacks and parties so, tourism was expected. However, as I write this post, Usher and Pitbull’s hit tune ‘DJ Got Us Falling in Love’ is blaring out of the speakers in the cafe I’m sat in – where art thou Bollywood music?
Cows and temples seem to be overrun by bars, tourists and parties and I’m still adjusting to the fact that wearing clothes that show your shoulders and knees is acceptable…
Alas, we’re off to a flee market this afternoon so fingers crossed for some bartering, Indian food and culture.
I’ll keep you all posted!
