Brunch Heaven at Hello Friends + Allies, Auckland

You may have noticed that there has been a ridiculous amount of food porn clogging up my Instagram page recently (you’re welcome).

Well, this is because I’ve been working on a little project since I arrived in Auckland. After discovering that Auckland is bursting with outstanding coffee and cafes, I took it upon myself to check out the best of the best cafes in the city so that I could then report back to you guys (you’re most welcome again)…

I will be publishing a mammoth list of what I unveiled before I leave New Zealand in September. However, until then, I had to let you know about my favourite discovery to date – Hello Friends + Allies.

A new cafe in Epsom (also conveniently a 15 minute walk from my house, wooo), Hello Friends + Allies is a brunching gem. Not only does it have an unusual name but, it also boasts bold, quirky decor.

Hot pink and white are the dominant colours used in the cafe with bursts of vibrant green hanging baskets draped throughout. Charismatic bare brick walls contrast with white wash walls and rustic wooden floors, giving the cafe a cosy yet, fresh feel.

There are both communal and private tables strewn with the latest mags making it a great place to dine on your tod (as I do on a weekly basis).

And the menu is the perfect mix of traditional brunch/lunch dishes such as, eggs bene and Bircher muesli (voted by my friend as the best in Auckland) and slightly quirkier Asian fusion dishes such as, Malaysian sticky black rice and bang bang chicken salad – to make it that bit more unique and interesting.

On my first visit I went for the breakfast bruschetta – a fresh combination of goats cheese, prosciutto, basil and tomatoes paired with a genius crystal ball of honeycomb and fig on the side. Washed down with a divine Supreme coffee, I was in my element.

On my second trip I opted for the fresh mushroom medley on rye toast, which was scrummy but nowhere near as delish and as good value for money as the bruschetta.

When it was time to pay, I headed up to the counter where I was greeted by a colourful cabinet of cake treats – what a tease!

From chunky ginger crunch and oozing creamy donuts to zesty lemon cheesecake and rich caramel mud cake, I came to the realisation that Hello Friends + Allies’ cabinet game is just as high as their menu.

I love everything about this cafe. The food and coffee are yum, the service and atmosphere are brilliant and it’s only a short walk down the road! What more could I want?

Will Hello Friends + Allies stay on top when it comes to my favourite cafes in Auckland EVER? You’ll have to stay tuned…
