Stuffing my Face at Street Eats, Auckland

Each month in Auckland ‘The Heart of the City‘ teams up with different companies within the community to showcase the best of everything the city has to offer – what a great idea, eh!?

So far we’ve had literary, film and comedy month and this month we’ve had my favourite month of all – restaurant month.

To give us a little taste of what we had in store for the rest of the month (a lot of discounts and offers!), a couple of weeks ago different restaurants from across to city gathered on the waterfront with pop up trucks and stalls to serve us the best of luxurious street food.

Introducing Street Eats.

After a manic morning at work, I couldn’t wait to head to the heart of the city (see what I did there) and stuff my face with yummy food from across the globe.

As we entered the venue we were hit by a wave of delicious smells – BBQ, spices, melting cheese, fish as well as the bustling sound of the street vendors cooking up a storm.

Straight away we were drawn to the Vietnamese Kitchen stand. Selling vibrant summer rolls, juicy chicken skewers and crispy spring rolls and dumplings, all at $3.50 each, it was the perfect opportunity to scoff down a couple of ‘starters’ to prep our tummies.

We then moved on to the bar, swooping up a glass of red before heading to our next choice of stall.

There was food from everywhere you could imagine – Thailand, Spain, India, Switzerland, Brazil, Italy, to name just a few…

For my next course I opted for a throwback to my time in South India with Keralan spiced fish. Packing quite a kick, it was delicious.

We then headed to the ice cream truck to cool down our mouths before moving towards the stage to watch some of the live music, which we had heard playing throughout the market. A Chinese dragon even made a quick appearance…

Street Eats was a real highlight of my time in Auckland and once again, reminded me of the community feel Auckland offers as a city. Unfortunately this event only happens once a year so, if you live in Auckland or happen to be planning a trip here around August next year, make sure it’s on your ‘not to miss’ list!
