    A Guide to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands in Fiji

    I can now confirm that Fiji is as idyllic, relaxing and picture perfect as it appears in the pictures on Google.

    I have spent the past 3 weeks exploring eight of the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands just off of the coast of Viti Levu (the main island) with Awesome Adventures Fiji and would now consider myself a professional beached whale.

    Whilst planning my trip, I had no idea which islands I should prioritize and which ones I could give a miss. In the end, it all came down to what I could afford. Accommodation in Fiji varies from backpacker basic (which is still very pricey) all the way up to lavish luxury and tends to include three meals a day.

    Postcards Home – Week 40

    To my dearest friends, family and fellow culture cravers,

    This week I have continued to explore the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands in Fiji with Awesome Adventures.

    After I reluctantly waved goodbye to my lavish bure at Barefoot Manta, I moved half an hour further South to Naqalia Lodge on Wayalailai Island. I’d heard nothing but great reviews about this lodge so, was very excited to check it out for myself.

    My First Ever Homestay

    “If money wasn’t a factor and you could visit any country in the world, where would you choose to visit?” I asked my homestay host Lani.

    “I can’t imagine loving anywhere as much as I love my home – Fiji”. She replied.

    Lani is a wonderful woman who lives in Nacula Village on Nacula Island (aka. paradise) in Fiji. Each week she opens up her home to travellers to help them experience the ‘real Fiji’ and learn about the Fijian culture whilst, also contributing to the village’s community.

    GUESS WHO’S BACK!!

    It’s been around 6 months since my last Postcards Home post – and what a 6 months it has been! Since arriving back in Auckland after my 6 weeks of travelling around New Zealand, I have been working at a great cafe in Cornwall Park (a must visit if you’re in Auckers), exploring as much of the city and surrounding areas as possible, learning a lot about the Maori culture, drinking an unhealthy amount of coffee and wine and spending some much-needed quality time with my gal pal from England who lives there.
