GALS ON TOUR! Holidaying in Europe…

Since jetting off on my first group holiday to the notorious party island of Malia in Crete, Europe I’ve been hooked on these girly getaways.

Sunbathing, drinking, meeting new people, bobbing around the swimming pool, laughing uncontrollably, chilling on the balcony, dancing the night away and inhaling a copious amount of greasy food –  these group holidays are the perfect way to spend some quality time with your gal pals and make some unforgettable (yet, hazy) memories.

So, if you’re thinking of booking a drunken escape with the girls (which I think you should!), here is my guide to some of the best party destinations in Europe:

Gals on Tour, Europe - Malia - My Culture Craving

    Malia, Crete

Malia was my first taste of a girly holiday abroad… and I couldn’t get enough.

Sunshine, cocktails and independence confirmed my love for travel and allowed me to spend some much-needed, quality time with my bezzies!

Gals on Tour, Europe - Ayia Napa - My Culture Craving

    Ayia Napa, Cyprus

Home to sensational weather, divine beaches and  a square of lively bars and clubs, Ayia Napa is a party animal’s paradise. From scandalous beach parties and booze cruises to hilarious silent discos and pool parties, Ayia Napa offers everything you need to feed your inner wild child.

However, if you’re also looking to get a good ol’ culture fix whilst you’re away, rent a moped or quad bike and get exploring the incredible scenery, which surrounds Ayia Napa’s tourist fueled strip.

Gals on Tour, Europe - My Culture Craving

    Sunny Beach, Bulgaria

Offering satin soft sandy beaches, a litre of local beer for £1 and an up-and-coming nightlife, Sunny Beach is a great party destination for any budget conscious travellers.

However, with the mafia presence still being prominent, you must be extra cautious not to get yourself into any sticky situations when on a night out – something, which is not ideal when you want to drink your inhibitions away.

If you do decide to take a trip to Sunny Beach, ensure you read up about any potential scams and places to avoid before you set off.

Hvar, Croatia - My Culture Craving

    Hvar, Croatia

Hvar’s perfect marriage of luxurious living, breathtaking beauty and vibrant nightlife, makes this glorious slice of the Dalmatian coast a ‘gals on tour’ haven.

With its glamorous harbour, lined with extravagant, luxury yachts, crystal clear waters, imposing rocky alcoves, fabulous sandstone buildings and quaint, pebble beaches, Hvar is the ultimate party destination with a huge splash of culture and charm.

Favourite Moments of Travel - Ibiza - My Culture Craving

    Ibiza, Spain

Ibiza is the party capital of the world. However, due to its painful prices, this party paradise tends to attract an older crowd than places such as, Malia and Ayia Napa. With club entry costing anything from €15 to €100 and drink prices soaring as high as €30 for a vodka mixer in the super clubs (*insert shocked emoji here*), partying here comes at an eye-watering price.

Nonetheless, once you’ve scraped together enough ‘dollar’ to make the trip, you will be welcomed by some of the best nightclubs in the world, stunning beaches, first-class cuisine and the chance to see some of the best artists in the music industry perform live.

Trust me, it’s worth the wait!!

Check out this website to find out the line up of events and performers at each club  as well as to buy any tickets you wish to book before you leave.

I love backpacking and experiencing culture in other countries however, there’s no shame in trading in your backpack for a wheelie suitcase every once in a while and enjoying a week of well-earned relaxation with your best friends.

Anyway, sampling the local beer counts as being cultured… doesn’t it?

My Top Travel Destinations of 2014

For me, 2014 has been a year of change. I have graduated from University, moved back home, found a job at a magazine, started this blog and, I’ve even been lucky enough to visit some incredible destinations and have a hell of a lot of fun along the way!!

It has been hard to choose my favourite countries/cities of the year however, I have managed to whittle them down.

So, without further ado and in no particular order, here are my top four travel destinations of 2014. Plus, the destination I have voted as my number one country/city of the year:

Kerala, India - My Culture Craving

    Kerala, India

I started the year of 2014 indulging in a luxurious Indian banquet, drinking a lot of wine (it would have been rude not to take advantage of the free bar) and dancing the night away thinking I looked like the main star in a Bollywood movie- all in a 5* hotel in Agra… it doesn’t get much better than that, does it?

However, my great discovery of India this time around (this was my second chance to travel around this unbelievable country) was Kerala in the South of India.

On my last trip I travelled Rajasthan extensively however, the sandy beaches, endearing house boats and tranquil backwaters of Kerala remained a mystery. Therefore, I assigned the last week of my most recent trip to relaxing, becoming a beach bum and soaking up the calming side of this hectic country in Cochin.

Kerala is exotic, picturesque and a lot more peaceful than Rajasthan however, it also has a lot of things to see and do! Check out my post on things to get up to off the beaten track in Cochin, Kerala here.

A week was no where near long enough in this easygoing state (I think a month would even be pushing it) therefore, I will definitely be going back during gap year #2!!

Canterbury, UK - My Culture Craving

    Canterbury, England

Despite having to wave goodbye to my life as a student in Kent this July, Canterbury will always be my home away from home.

If you are a student in Kent or just happen to be in the area, make sure you take time to check out Canterbury’s cute, cobbled side streets, charming cafes and outstanding Cathedral.

I still rush back here at every chance I get. Find a few posts I have written about good ol’ Canters here, here, here, here and here (you can take the student out of Uni, but you can’t take the student out of the girl… does that even make sense??..)

Favourite Moments of Travel - Ibiza - My Culture Craving

    Ibiza, Spain

After years of testing the water on the notorious party islands of Malia and Ayia Napa, my girlfriends and I decided that this year, we were ready… we were ready to experience the party capital of the world, IBIZAAAA!!

Beautiful beaches, huge performances, 24/7 partying and quality time with the gals… it was everything I had always imagined it to be.

Although we were on a standard 18-30s holiday, it surprised me at how classy and beautiful the different areas of the island were. I would love to go back and experience the luxurious side of this eccentric island… maybe when my budget isn’t so tight!

Discovering Montreux, Switzerland - Market - My Culture Craving

    Montreux, Switzerland

As you may already know from my last couple of posts, I discovered the picturesque municipality of Montreux, Switzerland a couple of weekends ago.

With its magnificent mountains, unique, wooden houses and mounds of cheese and fondue, Montreux was the perfect place to get a real taste of Switzerland.

I had a great day unearthing a side to Switzerland I had never seen before and can’t wait to adventure further into the Swiss countryside at a later date!

    And number 1 is… drum roll please…

Hvar, Croatia - History - My Culture Craving

    Hvar, Croatia

I went to Hvar in Croatia for an end of University blow out with my Uni gals… and boy did it deliver!!

Known for its crystal clear waters, pebbled beaches, marble-esque buildings, backpacker nightlife and luxurious yachts, we knew that Hvar was going to offer us both culture and crazy, drunken fun, all on one island.

When we first arrived I was taken aback by the immaculate beauty of the island as well as the steep prices. However, we soon found that excessive pre-drinking (not that I’m condoning binge drinking in any way…) and befriending their more… wealthy visitors, played in our budgets favour!

This island is stunning by day, soooo so much fun by night and has still not been ruined by us binge-drinking Brits. So get there while you can… it is my favourite destination of 2014.

Sun, Sea and… Beaches in Ibiza, Spain

Having just returned from a fun-filled, messy yet, EXHAUSTING week in Ibiza, I thought I would do a blog entry on something other than the extravagant nightclubs which lure millions of tourists to this vibrant island each year (mainly because the thought of Spanish Rushkinoff vodka is still making my stomach churn).

This incredible day/nightlife (Ibiza never sleeps) often leads tourists to overlook the outstanding beauty which this Hispanic island also has to offer.

Therefore, I have compiled a selection of beautiful beaches which I visited whilst I was there – all of which I loved for different reasons.

The Beaches in Ibiza - Beach - My Culture Craving

    Cala Bassa Beach

This stunning beach looks as though it has been swallowed by rocks. Set within a semi-circle shaped alcove, it has a more secluded feel than some of the other beaches in Ibiza. Lined by an outdoor, airy restaurant which serves up fresh fish, yummy sangria and a relaxing ambience, this is the perfect beach to enjoy a day of luxury and relaxation by the sea.

However, if the sangria happens to go to your head and you fancy doing something a little more daring, Cala Bassa also has a selection of activities available such as, pedalo boats, jet skiing and rock diving.

The Beaches in Ibiza - My Culture Craving

    Bora Bora Beach

The party beach of Ibiza, Bora Bora offers the usual stretch of smooth sand and glimmering sea as well as, pumping music and beach/pool parties throughout the day.

If you are looking for a day of drinking, background music, lookie lookie men trying to sell you sunglasses and pr’s offering you boat trips, then this is the beach for you however, I personally preferred the tranquility of Cala Bassa beach.

The Beaches in Ibiza - Sunset Strip - My Culture Craving

    Sunset Strip

The beach here is… grim. With a carpet of glass, bottle tops and rocks it isn’t the most appealing of beaches to the eye.

HOWEVER, when the excited crowds start to gather and the luminous sun begins to set, this beach transforms into a kaleidoscopic paradise.

Relaxing music echos from the bars along the beach, groups of friends bop around high on life, eyes fixated on the horizon and others play charades (not my friends and I, I promise…).

The sunset strip is not a place to go for a day of sunbathing however, it is a place to go and witness one of the most breathtaking and colourful sunsets in the world.
