Smokey Oaks launched their BBQ takeaway business towards the end of last year and since then they’ve gone from strength to strength!
They started out by offering a simple menu of burgers and meat platter focusing on smoking quality meat on the BBQ in their garden and then as demand increased, they expanded to taco Tuesdays and roast dinners. They now own a food truck, have an AMAZING new menu and are open 5 days a week – clearly Bicester are a big fan of BBQ food!
They’ve just launched a brand new menu and offer some excellent veggie options, so I couldn’t wait to give them a try!
The Smokey Oaks Experience
If you like overindulgent American style food, Smokey Oaks will be your new go to takeaway in Bicester!
Smokey Oaks are open 5 days a week (Tuesday – Saturday, 5pm – 9pm) and you can place your order and confirm a collection time via WhatsApp (07783 002485). They are currently based in Charlotte Avenue, Elmsbrook in their jazzy new food truck and payment can be made by card on collection. The new menu is great and whether you’re a mega meat lover or a veggie/vegan, there’s a fab selection of options for you to choose from.
From dirty burgers and hot dogs piled high with as many toppings as you’d like to meat platters and loaded fries, it’s hard to not want to order the whole menu…
I went for the beyond meat vegan beef patty topped with smoky monterey cheese, bbq smoked jackfruit, lettuce, jalapenos, crispy onions, sweet bbq sauce and a side of fries (£11). I really wanted to add the mac n’ cheese as well but decided that would probably be one too many toppings and I was definitely right. Look at that bad boy…
The beyond meat vegan patty was amazing – it genuinely tasted and looked like meat and all of the toppings were delicious. I love jackfruit as a pulled pork substitute so I was really happy to see it was on the menu!
The burger was of course the star of the show however, the chips very nearly stole the limelight. They were SO GOOD. Perfectly crispy on the outside and dusted with an amazing smoky sweet seasoning.
Harvey opted for a meat option – the famous smoked beef brisket patty topped with smoky monterey cheese, lettuce, gherkins, jalapenos, crispy onions, sweet bbq sauce, garlic aioli (£10) and dirty fries with pulled pork (£7.50).
He said the patty was juicy and flavoursome but didn’t leave the bun soggy and the chips were the perfect ratio of seasoning, meat, cheese and sauce. Like me, Harvey thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful and said that the loaded fries were the best he’s ever had (big claim) and the takeaway was by far his favourite we’ve tried so far!
Smokey Oaks definitely lived up to expectation. If you’re a big fan of bulging burgers, perfectly seasoned chips and quality smoked meat, then look no further for your food fix!
I love that they have a vegetarian option for pretty much everything on their menu, so you can order the exact same dishes just plant based and I also think it’s fab that you have the freedom to garnish your burger for no extra cost. Everyone has their own taste and quirks when it comes to toppings in burgers and hot dogs, so you can essentially build your own!
The burgers were incredible, the chips were insane and the couple who own the business are so lovely and are more than happy to help with any queries and/or requests you may have. To place your takeaway order with Smokey Oaks, give them a call or message on 07783 002485.
